Serapi rugs traced back to the early days of Persian hand made rug making in 5500 B.C. Serapi rugs originated from the area of Sarab region of Persia, now located in Azerbaijan and northern Iran. Original Serapi rugs were created in the villages of Serapi, Sarab, Ahar, Heriz and Gorevan, These are brightly colored pieces with bold geometric patterns often carrying central medallion motif. These are hand woven and knotted using symmetrical knots pulled right.
